The Cross: The School of Life


upon a dead tapioca cross

grew 7 green buds
what sign is this?
let me see...
Triumph of the Cross
the CROSS! 
beam, thorns, nails
crushed, pain, torment
Mother, can it be more sorrowful?
-- Go, follow him!
for a good while you abandoned me
for a long moment you hid your face from me
the shame of my youth…

Was it not 

when the reputation of the honourable Joseph 

was most vulnerable

that his response to God was most just?


Was it not

when Mary's virginity 

was evidently questionable

that she was most true?


Was it not 

when the Holy Family had left home, 

found no place for birthing, 

turned refugees, 

that they could home…

What God is this?

What God is this?

Fed by a woman's blood

Cradled in her placenta
Struggled out of her womb
insignificantly among the lowly
just like any baby
Fed thousands by Providence
Cared for by women friends
Struggled in the milieu of humanity
despicable among the condemned
just like any dissident
Fed his friends his flesh and blood

Mary, Mother of God

Has God-consciousness been born yet?

How can it be I am a virgin?
How can it be I am an atheist, agnostic, humanistic, a sinner?
How can it be without evidence, without prove?
How can it be that my new born son would bring me hurt like a stabbed…
